BYOD TELE

What is Technology-Enriched Learning Environment (TELE)?
Technology-Enriched Learning Environment (TELE) is a program governed by IT Services to provide students with laptop standards, course-specific software and software support. Students can visit the TELE page to learn more.

What does BYOD TELE mean?
BYOD is short for Bring your Own Device. Students are responsible to acquire a device for their program through couple of options; suggested devices, laptop standards or verification tool for those who wish to determine if a current laptop meets our standards. For further details on laptop standards, software and services please visit the BYOD TELE page.

How do I get software onto my personal laptop?
You are able to download and install your software through our university Software Portal by signing in using your university credentials. Please note: you must be registered in courses prior to downloading software.

Can I use a Mac for my program?
View laptop standards within your faculty to determine if a Mac computer meets the minimum specifications for your program.

Where can I find the hardware and operating system standards?
Visit the BYOD TELE page, select your faculty and view laptop standard section.

Can I rent a laptop if I need one for a short period?
Laptop rentals are available at the library for a nominal fee. To learn how to rent a laptop, read the Laptop Rental section on our Hardware page.

What is the university's policy regarding acceptable use of technology?
Visit the Technology Use Policy.

What are the hours of operation for the IT Service Desk?
View the Walk-in IT Service Desk and Remote IT Service Desk hours of operation. Please note that hours do change seasonally (determined by student usage) so be sure to check the posted hours prior to visiting.
Passwords

I can't remember my username or password.
Your initial username and password are included in an email from the Registrar that confirms your fees have been paid to the University. If you are unable to locate this email, please visit the IT Service Desk for assistance. If you are unable to visit the IT Service Desk, please call 905.721.3333, option 1 for assistance.
Note: Due to security reasons we are unable to give out usernames and passwords by email.

How do I change my network password?
Please be aware that your network password expires every 120 days/4 months (semester) and needs to be changed. Please visit Resetting Network Password instructions to learn how to change your password either using the university laptop or using webmail.
Phones

My phone in the campus residence isn't working. How do I get it fixed?
Contact the IT Service Desk at 905.721.3333, option 1 from your cell phone (if possible) or send an email to servicedesk@dc-uoit.ca.

I live in residence. How do I set up and change my voicemail?

Printing

Do I need a printer?
No. Students are provided access to printers within each laptop-equipped classroom and in the Learning Commons. There is no direct cost, however, there is a maximum volume of printing per student. Of course, a personal printer can be used off-campus as needed.

How many print credits do I receive for the year?
All full-time students who attend Ontario Tech and have paid their IT fee will receive $5 in print credits on their student's account each academic year (September 1 to August 31). Print credits expire at the end of August and reset on September 1 of each year.

How do I find out how many pages I have left to print before I reach my limit?
View your print balance and transactions while on campus (does not work off campus). Students can also inquire about their balance by calling or visiting the IT Service Desk.

I have used all of my printing credits. How do I purchase additional credits?
Students who require additional print packs can purchase top up cards online through the Durham College Campus Boostore via the links below. Print credits purchased here may be used anywhere on campus by students and employees of either Ontario Tech University or Durham College. Please note that print credit packs expire August 31 each year.
