What is OntarioTechU.Net?
OntarioTechU.Net is Ontario Tech University's brand for the Google Workspace (previously named G-Suite for Education) applications. OntarioTechU.Net includes all the Google Workspace applications deployed to students (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar and many more).

Who is eligible to receive a OntarioTechU.Net account?
All Ontario Tech undergraduates, graduates, alumni and faculty/staff will receive an OntarioTechU.Net account.

What does this cost Ontario Tech?
Ontario Tech pays licensing fees for all Google Workspace accounts, which includes access to their suite of applications such as Gmail, Drive and Meet. This also includes alumni Gmail accounts.

How do I login into my OntarioTechU.Net account?
- Visit http://mail.OntarioTechU.Net.
- Sign in using your 100XXXXXX and network password.
- You are now logged into your OntarioTechU.Net account where you can select the application you wish to use.

I have forgotten my email password. How do I have it reset?
Call the IT Service Desk at 905.721.3333, option 1 for assistance. See hours of operation.

What applications are available?
The following Google Workspace applications are available to all current students, faculty and staff:
- Google mail (Gmail)
- Google Authenticator
- Google Calendar
- Google Drive
- Google Hangouts
- Google Meet
- Visit each for more information.
Additional Google features or applications may be added, based on value and fit. New features or applications will undergo a thorough review and test phase before deployment to the Ontario Tech community.

May I choose my login and password?
Your OntarioTechU.Net account credentials are your 100XXXXXX number and your network password.

Who administers OntarioTechU.Net (G Suite for Education) accounts?
OntarioTechU.Net is powered by Google Workspace and is administered by IT Services.

Which web browsers can I use with Google Apps?
For information on supported browsers, visit Google Support.

Is Google Workspace available in English or another language?
The interface for Google Apps is available in many different languages. For a list of the available languages and instructions on how to set a different language, refer to Google Support.

Are there any other system requirements?
No. Google Apps runs in a web browser so you just need to use a supported browser.

How do I set up my mobile device to access my OntarioTechu.Net account or use an external email client instead of a web browser?

Will Ontario Tech provide support for OntarioTechU.Net?
Yes, the IT Service Desk will provide support for access to your OntarioTechU.Net account. You can also visit Google Help Center for additional information.

How can I be certain that my OntarioTechU.Net email session is completely “logged out”?
To end your OntarioTechU.Net session, select your account photo or email address in the top-right corner, and select Sign out. We encourage you to log out of OntarioTechU.Net after each session to protect the security of your email information. Logging out of OntarioTechU.Net is especially important if you check your email on a public computer.

Will I see Google related advertising?
No. All OntarioTechU.Net accounts will not receive advertising.
Alumni

How many Ontario Tech alumni have an OntarioTechU.Net email account?
More than 12,000 Ontario Tech alumni have an OntarioTechU.Net email address available to them.

Will Ontario Tech contact me more often now?
No. We try to be mindful of the number and frequency of emails sent out to alumni.

I already have a Gmail account. How does that help me?
Only Ontario Tech has the right to provision Google accounts with the OntarioTechu.Net domain. This demonstration of your affiliation with Ontario Tech can be useful for resumes and connecting with fellow alumni.

Will there be a central directory to find other alumni?
Yes, you can find your alumni friends through the Ontario Tech Alumni Directory where you automatically become a member when you graduate. You should ensure your email and mailing address are up to date to be an active member.
The directory allows you to post class notes, find a mentor, register for events and keep your contact information updated so you will be notified about future events and learn about new alumni benefits and Ontario Tech news. For more information please visit the Alumni website.

Who owns the intellectual property rights?
Ontario Tech University owns the data and Google owns the service.

Is my OntarioTechU.Net account secure and private?
Google has promised to uphold a strict privacy policy and to always treat your personal information with the utmost care and security. Read more about Google Privacy & Security.

Some of my emails contain confidential material. How will you maintain email privacy?
Google maintains Privacy Policies for each of its applications. For a complete list and access to each of these policies, please visit Google's Privacy Center Security & Privacy. However, confidential or sensitive information should NEVER be sent through email.

Is my information publicly available?
By default, OntarioTechU.Net services are not publicly available. Users can personally configure each tool to meet their specific needs. Information can be protected by only granting access to trusted individuals. Please exercise caution when sharing information with others for added protection. Is Google keeping track of my OntarioTechU.Net web history?
Web History is turned on for OntarioTechU.Net users. If you do not want your Web History recorded, please view the instructions on how to turn it off.

How can I ensure that my account is safe when I use a shared or public computer?
Always sign out of your OntarioTechU.Net account at the end of your session. If you do not sign out, the next person who uses the computer may be able to access your information.

What policies apply to my OntarioTechU.Net mail account?
Your OntarioTechU.Net account is subject to the Ontario Tech University Technology Use Policy, and Google's terms of service and privacy policy.

How will Google handle spam and viruses?
Google filters for viruses and spam before delivering the message; please refer to How is spam handled and Anti-virus scanning.

How do I prevent messages from specific senders being tagged as spam?
To make sure that any messages you receive from a specific person outside our domain pass through the spam filter, create an email filter using the Never send it to spam option. To learn more about using Gmail's filters, please visit Google Support.

How do I report junk e-mail?
Use the Report Spam button to let Google know if you received junk e-mail or a spoofed message. For more information visit Reporting spam and Report phishing.

Where is my email physically located?
All OntarioTechU.Net account files are stored in Google-owned servers around the world along with other Gmail accounts.

Can anyone at the university read my email?
Ontario Tech University respects your privacy. Select Ontario Tech University employees are responsible for managing OntarioTechU.Net accounts but do not access inboxes.
