Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Ontario Tech students participate in BYOD TELE and will bring their own device for their academic studies. Please review the laptop standards on the BYOD TELE page for laptop standards.  These specifications are required for the university software to run successfully and without any interruptions on your device. Another option to acquire a laptop is through the suggested devices page.   

General use workstations (GUWs)

Access to course-specific software for students is available on all the university desktops located in the North Library and on selected university desktops in the Downtown Library (61 Charles St).

Laptop rentals

Laptop rentals are available to accommodate students who might need a laptop for a limited time (subject to availability). Details are as follows: 

How do I rent a laptop? 
  • Laptops can be rented at the North Oshawa Library. 
  • As there is limited laptops available, please call 905.721.3082 to verify availability.
  • Bring your valid Ontario Tech photo ID or other proof of current student status (and picture ID).
  • Complete the Rental Agreement outlining the terms and conditions.
What is the cost of the rental laptop?
  • Cost for rental is $10/day.  Accepted methods of payment are debit or credit card (VISA or Mastercard). Cash is NOT accepted.
  • Payment is due upon return of the laptop.
What are the rental terms? 
  • Laptops can be rented for a maximum of 20 days.  
  • Any rentals required beyond 20 days must be renewed at the library it was initially rented from.
How can I renew the rental laptop?
  • Laptop must be returned in order for a new Rental Agreement to be processed.  Payment for the first 20 days must be made at that time.
