Office 365 for Faculty and Staff

Please note: This offering replaces Microsoft’s Home Use Program (HUP).

All employees are eligible to acquire a licensed copy of Office 365 ProPlus for both institutional business and personal use at no additional cost. This offer is available to all active university employees including:

  • Faculty and staff (full-time, part-time and contract)
  • Graduate student employees
  • Core Faculty
  • Sessionals
  • Teaching and research assistants

Office 365 ProPlus licence includes:
Word Excel
PowerPoint Outlook
Publisher OneNote
Access (excluding Mac) Skype for Business (excluding Mac)

The licences can be installed on either personally owned or university owned devices, a total of 15 possible installations over three types of devices.

  • 5 installs to PCs or Macs
  • 5 installs to tablets (Android or iOS)
  • 5 installs to smartphones (Office Mobile for Android or iPhones)

  • The software connects to Microsoft each time it is run to confirm the specific licence is still valid. This check occurs in the background without the need for users to take any action aside from having an internet connection. If 30 days of running the software passes without an internet connection, the software will run in a reduced function mode (read and print only) until a connection is made again. As a subscription edition, Microsoft updates Office 365 regularly, as often as monthly.
  • Licences are assigned to devices on a permanent basis.  If you no longer use the device or wish to free up a licence to use on an alternative devices visit: under Install Status and deactivate the instance for the appropriate devices.  Note this is only required for Windows and Mac PCs.
  • For Tablet and Phones, the Office 365 App is available from the appropriate App Store. After downloading the app, your Office 365 credentials will active it.
  • Upon leaving employment at the university, the Microsoft licences will expire and the software will not continue to validate when connecting with Microsoft. Functionality will be limited and employees will be responsible to either acquire licensing from Microsoft or remove the software.
