Manager of Student Systems

How did you begin your career?

My career journey has been a blend of academic interests, hands-on experience, and a passion for improving business processes. It all began when I was an international student at Ontario Tech, where I pursued a degree in Nuclear Engineering.

This academic background equipped me with problem-solving skills, quantitative analysis capabilities, and an understanding of systems thinking.

During this time, I had the unique opportunity to be the first student hired under the International University Works program in the Registrar’s Office. In this role, I supported fellow international students in their transition to university life and gained valuable insights into the administrative side of higher education. This role sparked my interest in systems and operational efficiency, and I found myself drawn to improving processes that made things easier for students. This experience, coupled with guidance from excellent mentors, allowed me to work on projects aimed at improving the student experience and streamlining administrative processes.

How did your expereinces lead you to a role in IT Services?

After graduation, I worked as a Business Analyst in the Registrar’s Office where I focused on leveraging technology to better support faculty, students, and staff. This role deepened my understanding of the vital interplay between people, processes, and technology in driving efficiency within a university setting. My interest in information systems and technological innovation led me to complete a Master of Information Management program (MIM) at Dalhousie University. All of these experiences have culminated in my current position as Manager of Student Systems in the IT department at Ontario Tech, where I’m responsible for ensuring that our systems meet the evolving needs of students and staff.

What are the best things about your job in IT Services?

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is the opportunity to innovate and collaborate with exceptional individuals and teams across campus. I thrive on the challenge of finding new ways to enhance student and staff experiences, and working in IT Services allows me to be at the forefront of implementing solutions in those areas. I also find the collaborative environment and the chance to make a tangible impact on the university's operations incredibly fulfilling. Moreover, the dynamic nature of the role and the rapid advancements in technology ensure there are always new challenges to explore.

What do you like to do outside work for fun?

Outside of work, I love traveling and discovering new places, especially when it involves sampling different cuisines. I also enjoy exploring local spots and hiking trails, usually accompanied with my husband and our dog. Additionally, I have a passion for home décor and creating cozy spaces in my home.
