Update on cybersecurity incident involving Canvas

UPDATED AT 9:10 A.M., MAY 11, 2026:

Based on feedback from Instructure, Ontario Tech has now restored access to Canvas and there is no impact to current operations. For more information, please reference Instructure's information regarding this incident, Security Incident Update & FAQs | Instructure.

The University will continue to provide updates, as information becomes available.

What to watch for

As a precaution, students, faculty and staff are asked to be on alert for phishing messages that claim to come from Canvas, Instructure or Ontario Tech, especially messages asking them to click a link, re-enter their password or provide personal information. 

A reminder: Ontario Tech University will never ask for a person's password by email, text, or phone. 

If people receive a suspicious message, they should report it to itsecurity@ontariotechu.ca via email.
