Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Data backup and cloud storage

Ontario Tech University provides users with a variety of storage solutions. These can be used to:

  • help prevent loss of data
  • provide additional storage, and
  • ease management of documents.

Please leverage one or more of the below solutions and avoid storing your data directly on your machine without a backup.

T Drive

What Is It An application that creates a cloud folder on your machine. Any files you save to this folder will be available in Google Drive and will not take up storage space on your machine. An application that automatically backs up the important folders on your machine to prevent you from losing data if your computer breaks. A collaboration website used at Ontario Tech University for storing and sharing files within departments. The T Drive is a network drive for storing department related documents.
When To Use
  • For storing personal documents.
  • When you don’t have enough free space on your machine.
Let it run continually in the background to keep your important files safe and backed up.
  • For storing work related documents.
  • For storing documents that need to be accessed by your team or department.
  • For storing documents with PII (Personally Identifying Information).
The T drive is a legacy system. Please use SharePoint instead for storing any new files.

If you are an employee, Backup and Sync can also be installed via LANDesk.

If your department would like to start leveraging SharePoint, please contact wisc@uoit.ca.

The T Drive will appear in your list of network locations if you are using an Ontario Tech University machine and are connected to the campus network when your machine turns on.

Drive File Stream and Backup and Sync both leverage Google Drive for storing your files. Ontario Tech students and employees have access to unlimited cloud storage with Google Drive. Visit the Google Drive page for more information on this offering.
